Various well-planned typed essays will be assigned, which include rough and final drafts. This includes a final argumentative research paper worth 100 points. Essay (15%) Various informal essays/papers will be assigned and ompleted throughout the year. This may be done in-class (test essay) or in a more formal (typed) manner. Short Writing Response (15%) Shorter response questions will be given throughout the year. This also includes Article of the Week. Articles will be distributed on Monday and returned on the following Monday and should include a) proof of a close reading and b) 1-2 page typed response that shows understanding, reflection, and original thought. Each article and response is worth 20 points. Homework (10%) Various points per assignment (assignments are expected to show mastery of the material being discussed and each assignment must be completely finished or a zero (0) will be issued for that assignment). Test (10%) Tests will be distributed at the end of each Literary Unit. This includes a Mid-Term Exam. Points will vary. Quiz (10%) Quizzes will be given on a daily basis to test for comprehension and completion of the assignment. Vocabulary quizzes will take place every Friday. All Quiz points will vary. Speech/Presentation (10%) Various opportunities to present to the class will occur. Rubrics to follow. Final Exam (10%) A Final Exam will be given at the end of the semester. (Approximately 100 points). Participation (5%) This includes participating during class and being an active member of discussion. This also includes your efforts with The Monkey Rope. Each student will actively participate in the online literary blog, via posting and adding comments based on the current reading.
